Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy (VAAA)
The Contracting Professional School
The Contracting Professional School (CPS) provides the VA acquisition workforce with the fundamental courses necessary to obtain the Office of Federal Procurement Policy’s (OFPP) Federal Acquisition Certification in Contracting (FAC-C) (Professional). In addition, the school offers specialized tracks and electives, in areas such as best value source selection, federal appropriations law and strategic sourcing, as well as customized courses for targeted training needs. These efforts assist the workforce in obtaining the 80 Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) that are required every two years to maintain certification.
The school works with vendors to incorporate civilian and VA-specific case studies in our training to increase relevance. The scenarios provided are realistic and create a meaningful theory-to-practice connection.
CPS takes a holistic approach to complement the core technical contracting courses with leadership, writing, and interpersonal skills training. This method aligns with the other schools of the VA Acquisition Academy, ensuring an integrated and synergistic curriculum that leverages the strengths of the entire acquisition team.
