Intern Field Trips
December 28, 2009
Interns in the program attend a series of field trips to gain a better appreciation and understanding of VA operations and industry environments and how they interrelate to the acquisition function. In November, the 2009 intern class (pictured here) visited a medical distribution center where they received a tour, learned about VA’s medical/surgical supply prime vendor program, and listened to a presentation given by the VA National Acquisition Center.
The interns participate in team building activities to help develop their capacity to work together effectively and foster a sense of unity and community within the program. The team building activities aim to teach the interns to embody the characteristics of an effective and high-performing team, including shared responsibility, alignment of purpose, high communication, and innovation. A recent team building activity was a trip to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where the interns spent the day with Navy Veterans learning about one of the world’s top institutions for training and developing leaders. This trip provided the interns an opportunity to come together as a group and learn more about the military and Veterans that they serve.
