VA Acquisition Academy receives CAOC 2009 Team Acquisition Excellence Award VA Acquisition Academy receives CAOC 2009 Team Acquisition Excellence Award

The VA Acquisition Academy (VAAA) received the Chief Acquisition Officers Council (CAOC) 2009 Team Acquisition Excellence Award.  The CAOC Excellence Awards recognize teams or individuals that have demonstrated excellence in acquisition management.  The VAAA received the team award to recognize the Internship School for contributions, distinguished performance, and outstanding service within VA.  The Acquisition Rewards and Recognition Program, co-sponsored by the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, the Federal Acquisition Institute, and CAOC is a government-wide program that publicly acknowledges the best and brightest in the acquisition workforce.

“We are honored to accept this prestigious award,” said VAAA Chancellor Lisa Doyle.  “Our Academy will instill competencies — the technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills — that will allow our students to succeed as acquisition professionals.”

The VAAA Internship School differs from most traditional acquisition intern programs through its holistic approach and emphasis on leadership, interpersonal communication skills development, and the camaraderie created by team activities built into the program.  Contracting offices within the agency have recognized the accelerated learning curve of the school’s interns during their job rotations.  The VAAA has also received recognition from other federal agencies and industries as a “model of innovation.”

“We’re proud of the work that we are doing at the Academy,” said Internship School Vice-Chancellor Melissa Starinsky.  “VA’s acquisition professionals must have the requisite judgment and skills to deliver the best value to the taxpayer and to our Nation’s Veterans, and this internship program will accomplish that.“
